Jakarta Offers Free Museum Entry for 499th Anniversary Celebration

Jakarta is rolling out the red carpet for its 499th anniversary, offering free entry to 11 museums and cultural sites. The Jakarta Culture Agency announced the program, which runs for three days on June 22, 27, and 28, 2026, inviting the public to explore the city's rich history, Betawi culture, art, and national struggles.

This initiative is part of a broader celebration that includes free public transportation on LRT, MRT, and Transjakarta, as well as free entry to Ancol, according to Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung. The governor stated that the policy aims to broaden public access to the city's cultural and historical spaces.

The 11 participating museums and cultural sites include the Wayang Museum, Textile Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, Maritime Museum, Onrust Archaeological Museum, Rumah Si Pitung Marunda, Fatahillah Museum, MH Thamrin Museum, Prasasti Museum, Joang 45 Museum, and Betawi Museum. The program provides a cost-free opportunity for both residents and tourists to engage with Jakarta's heritage.
