Jakarta's 499th Anniversary Celebration Set for June 27-28 with Concerts and Cultural Events

Jakarta is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of its 499th anniversary, with the provincial government planning a major event on Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, 2026. The festivities will take place in the bustling Bundaran HI area, promising a diverse range of performances and activities for residents.

Suharini Eliawati, the head of the organizing committee, highlighted the significance of this anniversary as Jakarta approaches its 500th year. She stated that the celebration is designed to offer the city's inhabitants various "gifts," encompassing enhanced public spaces, improved transportation, and a rich tapestry of entertainment and cultural events.

The celebration kicks off on Saturday with "Menuju 5 Abad Jakarta," a concert and multimedia show. The evening's main event, running from 3:30 PM to 10:00 PM WIB, will feature performances by Padi Reborn, Mahalini, Adrian Khalif, and others. Attendees can also look forward to a lighting show, video mapping, a flying LED display, eco-friendly art installations, and the launch of a logo commemorating Jakarta's journey toward its quincentennial.

Sunday's "Jakarta Penuh Warna" (Jakarta Full of Color) event, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, will transform the Bundaran HI area into a vibrant hub of activity. The program includes a Poundfit session, a giant balloon parade from Sarinah to Bundaran HI, a marching band, a mass Nusantara dance involving approximately 500 performers, a unique collaboration between Gambang Kromong and ballet, urban theater, and a waste sorting demonstration.
