Jakarta School's 995 Firearms for Extracurriculars, Not Combat, Says Perbakin Director

Hundreds of firearms discovered at a private school in South Jakarta were intended for use in the school's shooting and archery extracurricular activities, according to Alhadid Endar Putra, Director of PT Lokta Karya Persatuan Menembak Indonesia (Perbakin).

Putra, who represents the legal interests of the school's foundation, clarified that the weapons are legal and are primarily airsoft guns used for sports. He stated that the 995 weapons found in a room are legally registered under Surat Izin SI/5483-XII/2008, issued by the Indonesian National Police, and belong to PT Lokta Karya Perbakin.

It's a legal weapon. It's not a real weapon, it's airsoft for sports, for shooting and archery extracurriculars at that school.

These airsoft guns have reportedly been at the school premises since 2021 and were known to the foundation's supervisor. The weapons were slated for use in upcoming competitions, including the National Sports Week (PON) and events organized by the South East Asia Shooting Association (SEASA).

The clarification comes amid an investigation into the discovery of the firearms, with Putra asserting the legality and intended purpose of the weapons, aiming to dispel concerns about their presence at an educational institution.
