Jamaica's Able Mills Advances to U20 Discus Final

Jamaica's Able Mills has advanced to the final of the women's discus throw at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Oregon, USA. Mills secured her spot in the final by throwing 53.37 meters in the qualifying round, marking her best performance of the season. As the sole female field event athlete representing Jamaica, Mills' qualification is a significant achievement. She placed fourth in Group A of the qualifying rounds, with her best throw coming in the first attempt. Mills expressed satisfaction with her performance, noting that she focused on technical cues to achieve the desired outcome. "I just was working on some like technical cues to get the discus up and out, but it was good. Felt pretty great," she said. Mills had a fouled second attempt and a final throw of 52.38m. Having previously won both the Under-20 shot put and discus events at the Carifta Games in April with personal best marks, Mills acknowledges the challenge ahead. She stated that exceeding her personal best might be necessary to secure a podium finish, but her primary goal remains winning a medal.
