Janssen wins European discus bronze with personal best

Henrik Janssen secured a bronze medal for Germany in the discus throw at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, achieving a personal season best of 69.53 meters with his second throw. This marks the first European Championship medal for a German discus thrower since Robert Harting's victory in 2014.

Janssen's performance placed him behind only two favorites: Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh, who won gold with a championship record of 72.51 meters, and Lithuania's Mykolas Alekna, who took silver with 69.89 meters. Sweden's Daniel Stahl, the reigning Olympic champion and three-time world champion, finished fourth with 68.22 meters.

As the sole German competitor to reach the final, Janssen expressed his joy upon leaving the throwing circle after his sixth attempt, shouting with elation and clenching his fists. German champion Steven Richter had also hoped to compete but did not qualify for the championships.
