Japanese Boy Lost in Taiwan Reunited with Mother After Officer Speaks Japanese

An 8-year-old Japanese boy, who became separated from his mother during a visit to Taipei, was safely reunited with her thanks to the quick thinking and linguistic skills of a local police officer.

The boy was found alone near the Railway Museum on Yanping North Road, appearing anxious. When police arrived, the boy did not respond to questions in Mandarin Chinese. Officer Chen Chun-min of the Yanping Police Station observed the boy's clothing and demeanor, suspecting he might be Japanese. Fortunately, Officer Chen is proficient in Japanese.

Upon hearing his native language, the boy's tense expression relaxed, and he was able to explain that he had become lost. While Officer Chen comforted the child and alerted nearby stations and tourist information centers, he also received a notification from the Taipei Metro Beimen Station service desk about a Japanese woman searching for her lost son.

Officer Chen escorted the boy to the station, where the mother and son were joyfully reunited. The incident highlights the effectiveness of multilingual communication in assisting foreign visitors and serves as an example of positive cross-cultural interaction.
