Japarov Concludes SCO Plus Meeting in Bishkek, Calls for Stronger UN Role

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov brought the SCO Plus meeting in Bishkek to a close with a call to strengthen the United Nations as the foundation of a fairer, multipolar world.

Japarov thanked participants for exchanging views and said the countries had reached a common understanding despite differences in their assessments and proposals. He said dialogue should continue and solutions should be based on international law.

The main thing is that we are united in understanding the need to maintain dialogue and seek solutions based on international law.

“If we want to build a just, multipolar world, then we must strengthen the role of the United Nations. Multipolarity should expand opportunities for the equal participation of states in global affairs and not create new dividing lines,” he said.

The meeting was held under the theme “UN as a Key Element of a Just World Order: The Contribution of SCO Plus States to the Formation of a Multipolar World.” Representatives of 18 states and seven international organizations took part. Discussions covered international and regional security, sustainable development, and the expansion of cooperation among states and international associations.
