Jasikevičius-Led U16 Lithuanians Reach European Championship Quarterfinals

Lithuania's U16 basketball team, coached by Jasikevičius, has advanced to the European Championship quarterfinals after a hard-fought 80-72 victory over Italy. The young Lithuanian squad demonstrated resilience and strategic play to overcome their Italian counterparts.

Italy started strong, establishing an early 17-8 lead. However, the Lithuanian team regrouped, seizing the initiative in the second quarter to narrow the gap and trail by only one point at halftime, 28-29. Following the break, Lithuania unleashed a barrage of three-pointers, surging to a 57-49 lead and maintaining control throughout the final period.

Danielius Jasikevičius and Jonas Biržinis led the Lithuanian scoring with 14 points each, with Jasikevičius also contributing 5 assists and Biržinis grabbing 15 rebounds. Rapolas Klišauskas added 13 points and 7 assists. Despite a valiant 30-point effort from Italy's Aaron Mathis, the Lithuanian defense held firm.

Lithuania now awaits the winner of the eighth-final match between Israel and Germany. Their performance secures them a spot among the top eight teams in the tournament, showcasing the development of young talent in Lithuanian basketball.
