LKL schedule highlights: 'Žalgiris' starts in a month, 'Rytas' in two

The Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming season, which promises an early start for powerhouse "Žalgiris" due to their participation in the EuroLeague. The Lithuanian champions will kick off their domestic campaign on September 17, traveling to face "Gargžda."

Fans will have to wait a bit longer for "Rytas" Vilnius, as their season opener is slated for October 3, with the team playing at home against "Gargžda." This delay is attributed to "Rytas" competing in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup in China. The highly anticipated clash between the two giants, "Žalgiris" and "Rytas," is scheduled for November 2 at "Žalgiris" Arena in Kaunas.

This season, 10 teams will compete in a four-round system, with each team playing 36 regular-season games. The regular season is set to conclude on May 16, followed by the playoffs commencing on May 19. The playoffs will follow the traditional format, with quarterfinals played in a best-of-three series and semifinals and finals in a best-of-three format. The latest possible end date for the season, if all playoff series go the maximum number of games, is June 18. Most LKL games will be broadcast on BTV television.
