Jesús Luzardo Shuts Down Seattle, Joins Elite Venezuelan Pitchers with 200+ Strikeouts

Venezuelan pitcher Jesús Luzardo delivered a dominant performance, shutting down the Seattle Mariners and securing his 12th win of the season in the Philadelphia Phillies' 6-0 shutout victory. Luzardo's masterful outing saw him limit the Mariners to a single hit over seven scoreless innings, while striking out nine batters.

With his nine strikeouts on Wednesday, Luzardo surpassed the 200-strikeout mark for the season, marking the third time in his career he has achieved this milestone. This accomplishment places him in an exclusive club of Venezuelan pitchers.

Luzardo now joins fellow countryman Johan Santana as the only Venezuelan pitchers to record at least three seasons with 200 or more strikeouts. Santana achieved this feat five times during his illustrious career. Currently, Luzardo ranks second in the National League in strikeouts this season, trailing only Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, who has 216 strikeouts.

Another Venezuelan left-hander, Eduardo Rodríguez of the Arizona Diamondbacks, also had a strong outing. He pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out nine in his team's 2-0 blanking of the Chicago Cubs. This win marked Rodríguez's 14th of the season, lowering his ERA to 2.50, the third-lowest in the National League. His 14 wins tie him for second place in the league.
