Jigawa approves N53,853 refund for each 2026 Hajj pilgrim

The Jigawa State government has approved a refund of N53,853 for each pilgrim who participated in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. This decision comes after the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board submitted its report and remitted surplus funds amounting to N44.9 million to the state government.

Out of the amount, the government approved ₦53,853, approximately ₦55,000, as a refund to each pilgrim who performed this year’s Hajj.

Umar Labbo, the Executive Secretary of the board, announced the approval on Friday while presenting the 2026 Hajj Committee report to Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse. Labbo stated that the board also remitted an additional N27.2 million in unspent funds to the state treasury. He highlighted the success of the 2026 Hajj operations, describing them as the most successful in the state's history.

The 2026 Hajj operation was exceptional and surpassed all previous Hajj exercises conducted by the state.

The committee, chaired by the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Hameem Nuhu, was commended for introducing eye care services for pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. Labbo expressed gratitude to the state government for providing a N3.4 billion loan that facilitated the smooth financing and management of the Hajj operations. He also acknowledged the contributions of Islamic scholars and Local Government Centre Officers.

I urge the state government to establish a permanent Hajj transit camp for the Pilgrims Welfare Board instead of relying on the NYSC orientation camp, which is sometimes needed for corps members during Hajj preparations.

In response, the Emir of Dutse urged the government to establish a permanent Hajj transit camp for intending pilgrims, rather than relying on the NYSC orientation camp. Governor Namadi commended the committee for its dedication and leadership, particularly acknowledging the Emir of Dutse's role in the successful execution of the 2026 Hajj exercise.
