Jigawa Governor Catches Top Officials Absent During Surprise Secretariat Visit

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has initiated a crackdown on absenteeism within the state's civil service, making a surprise visit to the State Secretariat. During the inspection, which occurred around 11 a.m., Namadi discovered numerous offices of top officials locked and many senior civil servants absent from their posts.

The day’s activities commenced with an unannounced visit to the Jigawa State Secretariat Complex in Dutse, where the Governor monitored staff attendance, punctuality, and workplace productivity.

The governor's actions were documented in a viral video showing him moving through various ministries, opening doors to find deserted workspaces with only a few messengers and security personnel present. This unannounced visit was part of a broader statewide oversight tour aimed at enhancing governance and public service delivery.

According to a statement from the governor's Special Assistant, Garba Muhammad, the inspection focused on assessing staff attendance, punctuality, and workplace productivity. Muhammad stated that the exercise underscores the administration's commitment to instilling discipline and accountability within the state's civil service, promoting efficiency and adherence to duty.

Following the secretariat inspection, Governor Namadi traveled to Ringim Local Government Area. There, he participated in funeral prayers for victims of a recent boat accident in Malamawar ‘Yan Dutse community, as search efforts continued for those still missing. He also paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Ringim. The governor's tour also included inspections of ongoing road projects in Sankara and Kanya Babba, and an assessment of key infrastructure developments in Kazaure, such as hospitals, the State Research Institute, and the Polytechnic for Communication and Information Technology. Muhammad emphasized that this tour demonstrates Namadi's dedication to closely monitoring government programs and accelerating development statewide.
