John Chin loses again in ATP Kingston 2 Challenge lawn tennis competition

Jamaica's sole competitor in the ATP Kingston 2 Challenge, John Chin, suffered another defeat on Monday, falling to American teenager Benjamin Willwerth. The match, held at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston, saw Willwerth win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Chin, ranked 1,005 globally, was expected to secure Jamaica's first victory against the 19-year-old Willwerth, who has limited experience and a current ranking of 1,227. Despite a strong start where Chin broke Willwerth's serve to lead 2-0, the American fought back, leveling the set and eventually taking it 6-4 in 49 minutes.

The second set mirrored the first in competitiveness. The taller Willwerth, standing at 6 feet 3 inches, dominated with his serve, hitting five aces compared to Chin's one and winning 71 percent of his first serves. Willwerth saved eight of nine break points, a 89 percent success rate, while Chin saved 57 percent of his break points.

This loss follows Chin's early exit from the Kingston 1 Challenge last week, where he was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Australia's Edward Winter. Jamaica's top player, Blaise Bicknell, is scheduled to compete on Tuesday against Spain's Marrero Curbelo.
