Johor targets top three finish at SUKMA Selangor 2026

The Johor contingent is setting its sights on a top-three overall ranking at the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor in August.

Mohd. Hairi Mad Shah, Chairman of the Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development, and Cooperatives Committee, expressed his confidence that the athletes, through rigorous training and hard work, are prepared to fiercely compete against the host state, Selangor, as well as Federal Territories and Sarawak.

"I am confident and believe that with training and hard work, our athletes are ready to give a tough challenge to the host, Federal Territories, and Sarawak," Mohd. Hairi stated. "So, God willing, Johor will try to be in the 'top ranking,' the third best."

This ambition follows Johor's historic achievement in SUKMA 2022 held in Kuala Lumpur, where they secured the overall championship title for the first time in the state's history, winning 77 gold medals. The Johor contingent for the 2026 games will comprise 686 athletes, with the total number including officials reaching nearly 1,000.

Mohd. Hairi also provided an update on preparations for the 2027 SEA Games football event, confirming that venue, logistics, and accommodation arrangements are progressing smoothly. He aims to ensure the football competition is a memorable experience for all participants and for Johor.
