Johor to Strengthen Family Institutions Amidst Rising Social Ills

Johor's state government is prioritizing the strengthening of family institutions as a key strategy to address a surge in social problems, including severe stress and infant abandonment. Hasrunizah Hassan, chairman of the Johor Women, Family and Community Development Committee, stated that the root cause of these issues lies in the weakening of fundamental family structures.

"The current situation is different from the past," Hasrunizah explained, noting that modern generations are experiencing a decline in moral values due to widespread exposure to gadgets, the rapid spread of information, and the uncontrolled use of social media. In response, the state government has developed comprehensive strategic plans and initiatives aimed at revitalizing family institutions across Johor.

The government emphasizes that character development and the instillation of moral values will not be neglected, even as Johor experiences rapid physical and digital development. The initiatives will encompass all age groups and stages of marriage, from pre-marital phases through the first five to ten years of marriage, and beyond the ten-year mark. The state is also in the process of tightening and refining existing modules for pre-marital courses and marital guidance.

Hasrunizah expressed hope that these improved modules will cultivate a society with high ethical standards, thereby helping to curb the worsening of social problems in the future. The program aims to foster a more resilient and morally grounded society by reinforcing the foundational role of the family.
