Joint operation seizes 6,776 illegal cigarettes in Lamongan

Gresik Customs and several related agencies seized 6,776 illegal cigarettes during a joint operation in Lamongan, East Java, on Aug. 26, 2026.

The operation covered four districts: Sukodadi, Kedungpring, Karanggeneng and Kalitengah. Kedungpring produced the largest seizure, with 3,700 cigarettes. Officers found 2,652 cigarettes in Sukodadi and 424 in Kalitengah. They found no illegal cigarettes in Karanggeneng.

The operation involved Lamongan’s public order agency, Gresik Customs, the Lamongan District Prosecutor’s Office, the communications and informatics office, and the regional secretariat’s economic and natural resources division.

Eko Rudi Hartono, head of information and counseling services at Gresik Customs, said the seized products violated excise regulations. Some had no excise stamps, while others carried counterfeit, reused or improperly designated stamps.

Gresik Customs secured all the evidence for further legal processing. Authorities said the enforcement action aims to curb illegal cigarette distribution, protect state revenue and support fair competition for businesses that meet their excise obligations.
