Jokowi ready to attend trial over fake diploma allegations, will present educational documents

Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, has responded to a challenge from Roy Suryo, who demanded his presence at a trial concerning allegations of fake diplomas.

Jokowi affirmed his willingness to attend the trial if summoned by the judges. "We must respect the existing legal process and legal mechanisms," he stated while meeting reporters at his residence in Solo on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. He reiterated his intention to bring and present his diplomas, covering his entire educational journey from elementary school through university, addressing the controversy that has surrounded him.

The case involves accusations of defamation and the spread of false information regarding Jokowi's academic credentials. Initially, eight individuals were declared suspects by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. However, the investigation was later halted for three suspects: Eggi Sudjana, Damai Hari Lubis, and Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar.

Roy Suryo himself is not a defendant in this specific trial. He is currently pursuing a pre-trial motion at the South Jakarta District Court after being named a suspect in a related matter. The verdict for his pre-trial motion was scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

The trial's first session, held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the East Jakarta District Court, focused on the indictment against Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr. Tifa, who is one of the suspects in the case.
