Josef Martínez returns to MLS, signs with Columbus Crew

Venezuelan international Josef Martínez is returning to Major League Soccer, signing with the Columbus Crew as a new forward. The three-time MLS Cup champions announced the signing on August 13, hoping Martínez's proven scoring ability will help them climb the standings. The Crew currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with 20 points, outside of playoff qualification.

Martínez joins Columbus from Xolos de Tijuana, where he scored one goal in nine appearances over seven months. This move marks his return to MLS after previous stints with Atlanta United, Inter Miami, CF Montreal, and San Jose Earthquakes. The Crew have signed Martínez for the rest of the current season with an option to extend his contract through the 2027 campaign.

During his nine seasons in MLS prior to this signing, Martínez amassed 130 goals and 22 assists in 214 matches, establishing himself as the league's sixth all-time leading scorer. His return is expected to inject much-needed firepower into the Columbus offense as they fight for a playoff spot.
