Jostle for APC Presidential Campaign DG Continues as Group Endorses Al-Makura

Senator Tanko Al-Makura has been endorsed for the crucial role of Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) by the APC Integrity Group, signaling a potential shift in the jockeying for position ahead of the 2027 general election.

The group, in a statement released by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Mamman, and National Secretary, Goodluck Okafor, acknowledged the strong interest and credentials of several party leaders vying for the DG position. However, they emphasized that the campaign's success hinges on a leader with proven capacity, unwavering loyalty, broad national appeal, and a political history free from divisive controversies.

According to the APC Integrity Group, their thorough assessment identified Al-Makura, a former Governor of Nasarawa State and Senator for Nasarawa South, as the most fitting candidate. They highlighted his status as a founding father of the progressive movement, characterized by discipline, integrity, humility, and dedicated service. His contributions to the APC's growth and consolidation, particularly in the North Central region and nationwide, were noted as well-documented.

The group further stressed Al-Makura's consistent commitment to the party's ideals and his ability to maintain cordial relationships across political, ethnic, and religious divides. This endorsement comes amidst ongoing discussions and consultations within the APC, with figures like former Zamfara State Governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari and Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), being considered strong contenders for the campaign leadership.
