Josué Vergara scores as Gent begin victory over Club Brugge

Josué Vergara’s first goal for Gent came with an emotional release. The 19-year-old Panamanian forward cried after scoring against Club Brugge, marking a moment that reflected his growing importance in European football.

Vergara started as Gent’s center-forward and threatened the visiting defense from the opening minutes. Before finding the net, he struck the crossbar after reacting quickly to a rebound from Momodou Sonko’s shot.

His goal arrived in the 38th minute. Tiago Araújo sent a cross into the area, and Vergara got ahead of his marker to fire a powerful right-footed shot past the Club Brugge goalkeeper. Gent led 1-0, but the advantage lasted only two minutes before Club Brugge equalized.

Vergara continued to look for another chance after halftime. He sent a header wide in the 65th minute and was replaced one minute later by Ibrahima Cissé. Cissé later scored Gent’s winning goal in the 85th minute, completing the 2-1 result.

The performance extended Vergara’s run of form after he also scored against Hibernian. His speed, presence in the box and ability to take chances are giving Panama another encouraging sign as the young striker adapts to football in Belgium.
