Journalist: Kurti timed Kosovo actions to politically 'slap' Vučić

Journalist Sandra Petrušić has sharply criticized the Serbian authorities for what she describes as neglect of the Kosovo issue, stating that a lack of reason prevails on all sides. Petrušić characterized both Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti as "equally autocratic" leaders incapable of effective negotiation. She posits that Kurti strategically timed recent actions, such as the gradual withdrawal of KFOR from securing the Visoki Dečani monastery and the Kosovo police taking control of the bridge in Kosovska Mitrovica, to politically undermine Vučić. "While Vučić boasts, here he is with Zelensky, he won't give it up, he's crossing the Drina, going to Republika Srpska, promising 'never again Storms.' Meanwhile, people go, they demolish weekend houses..." Petrušić stated, referencing recent events and Vučić's political rhetoric. She argued that these developments expose the flaws in Vučić's long-standing policy, which is now being exploited at a moment when his stance on Gazivode was intended for an election campaign. Petrušić expressed concern that while Vučić might not be the direct victim, the Serbian population in Kosovo will suffer the consequences. She also pointed to the potential impact of redirecting the Ibar River, a plan announced by Vučić, which she believes could deprive Serb communities of water. Regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Serbia, Petrušić anticipates no significant reaction from Russian President Vladimir Putin. She believes the visit, which she felt was poorly handled with a low-level reception, did not substantially alter Russia-Serbia relations. Petrušić noted the lack of visible security measures or public disruption in Belgrade during Zelensky's visit, contrasting it with the expected response for a head of state from a major country.
