Julio Iemma Claims 20th Gold for Venezuela at Central American Games

Julio Iemma has clinched Venezuela's 20th gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, marking a significant achievement as the competition enters its final week. Iemma's victory came in the shooting event, specifically the 50-meter rifle in three positions.

This gold medal is particularly noteworthy as it represents Iemma's sixth gold medal across six different editions of the games. He also contributed to Venezuela's medal tally earlier in the day by winning a silver medal in the team event for the same rifle category, alongside teammates Aníbal Pérez and Santiago Niño. The Venezuelan trio secured second place, adding to the nation's success.

Despite challenging weather conditions, Iemma focused on technique, as he mentioned in a video published by the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV). "We focused on the technique, on what we have been doing," he stated. The Venezuelan delegation also saw success in other sports, with the women's table tennis and women's hockey teams securing bronze medals on August 3.

As of the latest update, Venezuela has accumulated a total of 20 gold medals, 34 silver medals, and 63 bronze medals. The 2026 edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games is scheduled to conclude on August 8.
