Kabir Malik appointed new head of World Bank projects in Kyrgyzstan

Kabir Malik has been appointed as the new head of World Bank projects in Kyrgyzstan, marking a new phase in the partnership between the country and the international financial institution. The announcement came during a meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Energy Minister, Altynbek Rysbekov, and representatives from the World Bank's Kyrgyzstan office, led by outgoing head Hugh Riddell.

During the meeting, Malik was formally introduced to Minister Rysbekov. The discussions also focused on the progress of energy sector reforms and the implementation of joint projects. A key topic was the first phase of a solar power station project with a capacity of 1,900 megawatts, which was commissioned on June 14. This project was highlighted as a significant outcome of the ongoing reforms in the energy and investment sectors.

Hugh Riddell expressed satisfaction with the recent acceleration and increased efficiency in the implementation of joint projects. He conveyed confidence that this positive momentum would continue. "We are seeing very good dynamics in project implementation recently. The difference is very significant compared to the situation a few months ago," Riddell stated, emphasizing the improved pace and effectiveness of collaboration.

Minister Rysbekov underscored the World Bank's role as a crucial partner for Kyrgyzstan. He affirmed that the collaborative projects are instrumental in strengthening the country's energy security and modernizing its energy infrastructure. The appointment of Malik is expected to further bolster these efforts and ensure the continued development of the energy sector.
