Kabir Malik Appointed New World Bank Project Manager in Kyrgyzstan

Kabir Malik has been appointed as the new World Bank Project Manager in Kyrgyzstan, marking a new phase for the institution's engagement in the country. The announcement came during a meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Energy Minister Altynbek Rysbekov and World Bank representatives, led by Hugh Riddell, the head of the Kyrgyz Republic office.

During the meeting, Malik was formally introduced to the minister. The parties also discussed the significant 1,900-megawatt solar power plant project, which officially commenced on June 14. This project is highlighted as a key outcome of ongoing reforms and investment activities within Kyrgyzstan's energy sector.

Hugh Riddell expressed satisfaction with the progress of joint projects, noting a substantial acceleration and increased effectiveness in recent months. "In recent times, we have observed very positive dynamics in project implementation. If we compare it with the situation a few months ago, the difference is very significant," Riddell stated, expressing confidence that this positive momentum will continue.

Minister Rysbekov underscored the World Bank's crucial role as a partner to Kyrgyzstan. He emphasized that the collaborative projects are strategically designed to bolster the nation's energy security and modernize its energy infrastructure. The appointment of Malik is expected to further strengthen these efforts.
