KAI says Karet station will remain open as it integrates with Sudirman Baru

Karet station will not close, Indonesia’s state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia says. Instead, it is being integrated with nearby Sudirman Baru through redesigned access and connecting facilities.

The two Jakarta stations handled 6,702,680 KRL Commuter Line customer trips from January through August 2026. Karet accounted for 4,909,334 customer activities, while Sudirman Baru recorded 1,793,346.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the integration aims to improve connectivity between the two station areas and make Commuter Line travel more efficient and comfortable. She said Karet would continue to serve as an access point, while passenger movement and supporting areas would be organized around Sudirman Baru.

This arrangement is being carried out to improve people’s travel comfort by providing better connectivity between the Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station areas.

“Karet station still has a role as a customer access point,” Anne said. The company is arranging access and supporting areas so passengers can travel more comfortably, safely and in an orderly way.

Work around Karet includes improvements to the station landscape, drop-off areas for onward transport including ride-hailing motorcycles, better use of station space and a redesigned pedestrian corridor. KAI said Karet and Sudirman Baru would retain their respective functions, with connecting facilities making movement between the two areas easier.
