Kairouan hospital construction to accelerate from September

Construction work on the Roi Salman University Hospital in Tunisia's Kairouan governorate is set to accelerate from September, entering a new phase after the completion of complex planning and technical studies.

Minister of Equipment and Housing, Salah Zouari, announced that companies involved in the project have committed to increasing the pace of execution. This will allow for the commencement of above-ground construction, moving beyond the foundation phase. Citizens will soon see visible progress as the hospital's structures begin to emerge.

The citizens will be able to see the progress of the construction site and the emergence of the hospital's first structures on the ground.

Zouari also revealed that a revision of the execution timeline has been requested from the Tunisian-Saudi joint venture and international design firms. The goal is to shorten the current contractual period, which is estimated at three years. A revised schedule is expected by the end of September.

A revised proposal for the schedule must be presented by the end of next September at the latest.

The hospital will feature 500 beds and 16 state-of-the-art operating rooms, covering all medical and paramedical specialties. Zouari highlighted that completing such a large-scale project in a single phase is a significant achievement. The preceding period, he explained, was a necessary technical phase for detailed execution studies required in major projects before on-site construction begins.

The Roi Salman University Hospital project represents a major healthcare initiative for Tunisia, utilizing the latest hospital construction technologies. Its cost, excluding equipment, is approximately $143.9 million. The facility will span about 70,000 square meters of covered area on a 14-hectare site.

The capacity of this major medical project is 500 beds and it will include nearly 16 operating rooms of the latest generation, as well as all medical and paramedical specialties.
