Kano State Completes Over 55% of 1,557 Projects

Kano State has completed over 55% of the projects initiated under Governor Abba Yusuf's administration, according to the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Maaji. Out of 1,557 projects undertaken since the governor's inception, 867 have been finished, representing 55.68% of the total.

Maaji stated at a media briefing that ongoing projects constitute 42% of the total. The projects have a combined contract value of N996.29 billion. Of this amount, N695.20 billion was approved via Notices of No Objection, and N444.75 billion has been vetted by the ministry through payment certificates.

The scope of these projects is extensive, covering urban infrastructure, rural development, mass housing, roads, bridges, healthcare, education, and traffic management across the state. The eight metropolitan Local Government Areas account for 598 projects valued at N299.36 billion, while the 36 rural LGAs host 653 projects worth N287.90 billion. Additional projects spanning multiple LGAs or statewide initiatives add significantly to the total investment.

Notable projects include a mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwangwan (N113.19 billion), the Katsina Road expansion (N24.77 billion), and the Modern Cities infrastructure program (N21.90 billion). However, the Dawakin Kudu Mass Housing project and the Rural Model City Housing project are among the high-value initiatives still undergoing due process procedures.

Regarding financial oversight, Maaji reported that N444.75 billion in payment certificates have been vetted, representing 44.64% of the total contract value. The ministry affirmed its commitment to continuous monitoring, addressing implementation challenges, and enhancing certification processes to ensure value for money.
