Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Lai Rui-long proposes five policies for new residents

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Lai Rui-long engaged with dozens of new residents and their second-generation children, discussing their aspirations for Kaohsiung and Taiwan. Lai expressed gratitude for their decision to settle in Kaohsiung, highlighting how they enrich the city with diverse cultures and international perspectives, contributing to its progress and global standing.

Lai acknowledged the efforts of association president Cen Huan-chiong in bringing together new residents from various countries. The awarding of new resident support group certifications symbolized their recognition and commitment to Kaohsiung. Attendees from Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Korea enthusiastically chanted "Lai Rui-long dong suan!" in their native languages, a powerful display of cross-cultural support that deeply moved the candidate.

In response, Lai unveiled his "New Kaohsiung Family" five-point policy plan. This includes enhancing the new resident service system with clear contact points and dedicated mechanisms. The plan also addresses the environmental improvement of the Happiness River and its surroundings, supporting new resident businesses, and fostering a multicultural city through more performance and exchange platforms centered on new residents. Additionally, it aims to create a multilingual city by introducing guides in Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian at major tourist sites and cultural venues, and by adding multilingual services to the 1999 citizen hotline.

Lai stressed that Kaohsiung is a city that embraces all, a melting pot of different ethnic groups. He affirmed that regardless of origin or language, anyone who identifies with the land is a vital part of Kaohsiung. He pledged to continue listening to the voices of new residents, ensuring Kaohsiung becomes a more friendly and inclusive international city where every family can establish roots and pursue their dreams with confidence.
