Kaohsiung steel plant accident: Worker falls to death from 15 meters

A fatal industrial accident occurred at a steel factory in Yanchao District, Kaohsiung, on August 10th, claiming the life of a 51-year-old contract worker. The incident took place around 11:30 AM.

The worker, identified as Zhang, was part of a team contracted to replace roofing panels on the factory building. While working on the roof, he lost his footing and fell approximately 15 meters, equivalent to about five or six stories. He was pronounced dead at the scene and did not require transport to a hospital.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, cordoning off the area to preserve evidence. Forensic personnel were called to collect evidence. The investigation will proceed with a judicial autopsy ordered by the Qiaotou District Prosecutor's Office to determine the exact cause of death. The Kaohsiung City Government's Labor Affairs Bureau has also been notified and is investigating the workplace safety compliance at the factory.
