The Karawang Regency government in West Java, Indonesia, has set an ambitious target to construct 2,441 habitable houses throughout 2026. This initiative, entirely financed by the Karawang Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD), underscores the local administration's commitment to improving housing conditions for its residents.

Asep Hazar, the Acting Head of the Karawang Department of Public Housing and Settlement Areas, confirmed that the construction target aligns with the available regional budget. He emphasized the program's substantial positive impact on low-income communities. Hazar stated that acquiring decent housing can alleviate financial burdens, allowing families to redirect their income towards other essential needs like education and nutrition.

Applicants must own the land and the house intended for repair or construction. This digital approach is part of a broader effort to modernize public services within the region. The allocated budget for the program is approximately IDR 46.9 million per unit. The 2026 target of 2,441 units shows an increase compared to the 2,921 units completed in the previous year, reflecting a sustained effort to reduce the number of substandard houses in Karawang.
