Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Ilham Aliyev

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ilham Aliyev used a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit to review Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan relations and ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan.

Tokayev thanked Aliyev for congratulating him on the Kurultai elections and for Azerbaijan’s active participation in the observer mission. He said the elections had received a unanimously positive assessment from international organizations and said the Kurultai would cooperate actively with Azerbaijan’s Parliament, the Milli Majlis.

"Our relations are developing successfully, are allied in nature, and are becoming more substantive day by day," Aliyev said. He also said the conduct of the Kurultai elections and public support for Tokayev’s course showed that Kazakh society was responding positively to the reforms.

The presidents discussed trade, economic and investment ties, along with joint projects in transport, logistics, energy and digitalization. They also reviewed the schedule of upcoming international events. Tokayev was in Kyrgyzstan for a working visit and was due to attend the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and an SCO+ session.
