Kataryna: Everyone in PiS is defending Moskal over the meeting with Kral. That says something

Michał Moskal is not, as the defense from some Law and Justice politicians suggests, an innocent figure who knew nothing about Przemysław Kral or the cryptocurrency company Zondacrypto. That is the central argument of Kataryna’s commentary, which examines the politician’s meeting with Kral and the explanations surrounding it.

Rafał Bochenek has argued that Moskal, an opposition politician, was not warned by Donald Tusk’s government about who Kral really was or the consequences of his alleged financial pyramid scheme. Bochenek nevertheless acknowledged that Moskal showed “a certain carelessness” by meeting Kral. He added that, as recently as August last year, the public did not yet know what was connected to Zondacrypto’s activities.

The commentary portrays Moskal as an experienced political operator despite his age. He served as Jarosław Kaczyński’s political chief of staff when Kaczyński was deputy prime minister, headed the political office of Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, and remains a member of the PiS executive committee.

Moskal himself said he had been thinking for a long time about making cryptocurrency a political niche and wanted to meet someone with practical expertise. That account contrasts with his earlier claim that his trip to Ibiza had no political connection and that he went on behalf of a foundation linked to him to seek Kral’s funding for its conference.

Kataryna argues that questions about Kral and Zondacrypto had already appeared in Gazeta Wyborcza by mid-July. The coverage cited alleged mafia money behind the company’s creation, the mysterious disappearance of the man Kral replaced as chief executive, warnings from Poland’s Financial Supervision Authority, prosecutorial actions and the inability to establish the exchange’s true owners. The commentary concludes that Moskal’s claim that he did not know whom he was meeting is difficult to accept, particularly given his stated interest in cryptocurrency.
