Kauno Žalgiris Learns UEFA Conference League Opponents

Lithuanian champions Kauno Žalgiris will compete in the UEFA Conference League after the draw held in Monaco revealed their opponents. The club, seeded in the sixth pot before the draw, faces a challenging path in the competition.

Their opponents include German club Freiburg, English side Brighton, and Swiss team Lugano. Kauno Žalgiris will also play against Brann from Norway, Riga from Latvia, and Egnatia from Albania. The exact schedule for these matches will be announced later this week.

The Conference League features 36 clubs competing in a single league table, rather than traditional groups. Each team will play six matches, three at home and three away, with the first games commencing on October 15 and the final group stage matches concluding on December 17.

Following the group stage, the top eight teams will advance directly to the round of 16. Teams finishing between 9th and 24th place will compete in a playoff round for a spot in the knockout stage, while the bottom 12 teams will be eliminated from European competition for the season.

Kauno Žalgiris previously participated in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, eliminating Drita and Klaksvik before losing to Dinamo Zagreb. They then moved to the Europa League qualifiers, where they were defeated by Besiktas.
