Kazakhstan adds five sites to UNESCO World Heritage List

Kazakhstan celebrates the inscription of five of its sites onto the UNESCO World Heritage List, a significant cultural milestone for the nation. The Mangystau cave mosques are among the newly recognized sites, marking the first national cultural heritage inclusion in 22 years.

First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Karin, described the event as "a landmark event in the country's history." He noted that the last time a national cultural heritage site was added to the prestigious list was in 2003 with the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and in 2004 with the petroglyphs of Tanbaly.

The current administration has revitalized efforts to nominate national heritage sites for UNESCO recognition. Future nominations are planned for the Zherkyrky Mosque, constructed entirely of wood, the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty, the Karatau petroglyphs, and the "Words of Edification" by Abai.
