Kazakhstan braces for heat, thunderstorms, and hail amid storm warnings

Kazakhstan is bracing for a day of volatile weather on August 10, with meteorologists predicting a clash of extreme heat, thunderstorms, and strong winds driven by a southern cyclone. The forecast indicates a challenging day for much of the country, with significant regional variations.

Temperatures are set to soar, particularly in the Kyzylorda Region, where mercury is expected to climb to a sweltering 40-43 degrees Celsius. Other southern and central regions, including Kyzylorda, Abai, and Zhambyl, will also experience intense heat, with temperatures reaching 35-40 degrees. This extreme heat, coupled with strong winds, has led to widespread fire hazard warnings, with many areas under extreme risk, especially in the south and west.

Meanwhile, many northern and eastern regions, as well as mountainous areas in the southeast, can expect rain and thunderstorms. Heavy downpours, localized hail, and squalls are possible, particularly in the evening in the Almaty Region. The capital, Astana, and Almaty city are forecast to reach 35 degrees Celsius, with thunderstorms also expected in Almaty.

Increased wind speeds are a common thread nationwide, with gusts predicted to reach 15-20 meters per second in several regions, including Akmola, Kostanay, North Kazakhstan, and Abai. These strong winds may also contribute to dust storms in northern regions during the day and fog in the north and northeast during the night and morning hours.
