Kazakhstan's Kurultai elects three deputy chairmen

Kazakhstan's new unicameral parliament, the Kurultai, has moved to establish its leadership by electing three deputy chairmen. The selections were made following an open vote by the deputies.

Chairman Aibek Dadebay, who was himself recently elected to lead the Kurultai, put forward the candidates for the deputy positions. The deputies present supported the proposed nominees, solidifying the parliament's core leadership structure.

The elected deputy chairmen include Daniya Yespayeva, chair of the Ak Zhol Democratic Party of Kazakhstan, and deputies Dinara Zakiyeva and Nurlan Beknazarov from the Adilet Party.

This development is part of the significant political restructuring in Kazakhstan, which came into effect on July 1 with a new Constitution. The former bicameral Parliament, consisting of the Mazhilis and Senate, has been dissolved and replaced by the 145-seat Kurultai, with deputies serving five-year terms. These elections marked the first parliamentary elections under the new constitutional framework.
