Kazakhstan's Shaidorov rises to 3rd in world figure skating rankings

Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan has climbed to third place in the International Skating Union's (ISU) world rankings, according to the federation. With 3,918 points, Shaidorov is now among the top figure skaters globally, trailing only Ilia Malinin of the USA (4,590 points) and Yuma Kagiyama of Japan (4,123 points).

Kazakhstan's Sofia Samodelkina also secured a spot in the top 15 among women, ranking 13th. The ISU world ranking system evaluates athletes based on their performance and consistency over the past three seasons. Major events like the Olympic Games and World Championships are equally weighted, each contributing 1,200 points.

Ilia Malinin, the current ranking leader, earned the same points as Shaidorov for their best result last season because Malinin won the World Championships. Malinin also achieved stronger results in the Grand Prix series, accumulating more points overall. Shaidorov's recent Olympic gold medal in men's singles figure skating in February 2026 marked a historic achievement for Kazakhstan. Previously, the country's best Olympic result in the sport was Denis Ten's bronze medal in 2014. Shaidorov's Olympic victory came after he placed fifth in the short program, but delivered a commanding free skate to secure the gold.
