Kazakhstan tests first passenger drone with onboard pilot

Kazakhstan has achieved a significant milestone in aviation technology with the first successful test flight of a passenger drone carrying a person aboard in Astana. The experimental flight of the electric EH216-S aircraft, capable of vertical takeoff and landing, took place on August 6th over a designated area in the capital.

This advanced drone is designed to carry two passengers and can reach speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour, with a range of 35 kilometers. Initially, authorities plan to deploy these aircraft for demonstration and tourist flights, offering short excursions of 5 to 30 minutes over scenic, cultural, and historical sites.

Looking ahead, the potential applications for passenger drones are extensive. They are being considered for critical roles such as providing emergency medical assistance, delivering vital medications, supporting firefighting efforts, and enhancing logistical operations. Furthermore, Kazakhstan is exploring the possibility of localizing the production of these aircraft through international partnerships, signaling a commitment to developing its domestic aerospace industry.
