Kebbi governor backs Tinubu's re-election for state's benefit, says aide

The Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has publicly defended the governor's commitment to mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027. The aide, Abdullahi Idris, also known as Sadaukin Zuru, stated that the governor has both a moral and political obligation to back the president.

Multi-party democracy gives Nigerians the sovereign right to choose their party and direction. In 2023, the people of Kebbi State made that choice decisively by electing Comrade Governor Nasir Idris under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the aide, Kebbi State has experienced substantial advantages from its alignment with the federal government, which is led by the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized that the people of Kebbi State had freely chosen Governor Idris, an APC member, in the 2023 governorship election, viewing this mandate as a vote of confidence in the governor's background and public service record.

Sadaukin Zuru highlighted that President Tinubu has strengthened the state's relationship with the federal government. This is evidenced by the president authorizing Governor Idris to recommend qualified individuals from Kebbi for appointments to federal boards and commissions, reversing a previous situation where the state's share of such positions was allegedly undermined.

After years of hijacking the state’s share of membership of federal boards and commissions, President Tinubu has reversed the situation and authorised Comrade Nasir Idris to recommend credible, experienced and selfless Kebbi indigenes for appointment.

Furthermore, the aide credited the strong state-federal relationship with bolstering efforts to combat insecurity. He noted the federal government's recognition of Governor Idris's support for security agencies through logistical and financial aid in the fight against banditry. Federal agricultural interventions, including additional food and farming support, have also complemented the state's own initiatives, proving, in the aide's view, that Kebbi benefits most when aligned with the ruling party at the national level.
