Osun election: Police probe attack on INEC officials, PVCs theft

The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and the subsequent theft of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The incident occurred in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the command's spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, about ten armed thugs attacked INEC officials who were distributing PVCs at Oyinlola DC Primary School in Ward 2. The hoodlums reportedly fired shots into the air before making off with three packs of PVCs.

Officials of INEC in Osun, who were distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at Oyinlola DC Primary School, Ward 2, Odo-Otin Local Government Area, were attacked by about ten armed thugs.

Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and has directed a thorough investigation to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. The police have deployed tactical and intelligence teams to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators and recovering the stolen PVCs. The command assures the public of its commitment to professionalism and adherence to the rule of law.

Ojelabi urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, refraining from actions that could further disrupt public peace. He appealed to eyewitnesses with information to report to the nearest police station or contact the command's emergency lines. The spokesperson also warned that anyone attempting to exploit the incident to incite violence or disorder would face legal consequences. The command confirmed that peace has been restored in Ile-Ife following a previous disruption.
