Kelantan Islamic Council disburses over RM1.196 million in Waqf funds for public projects

The Kelantan Islamic Council (MAIK) has allocated over RM1.196 million from its cash waqf funds to finance 16 significant projects aimed at benefiting the residents of Kelantan, Malaysia.

The implementation of these projects proves that cash waqf contributions entrusted by the community are not just collected, but translated into tangible benefits in the fields of education, health, welfare, and basic facilities.

These initiatives span crucial sectors including education, health, welfare, and essential infrastructure. Tan Sri Tengku Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, President of MAIK, highlighted that these projects demonstrate the tangible impact of public trust in waqf contributions, providing direct and ongoing advantages to the community.

Among the major beneficiaries are Maahad Tahfiz al-Quran in Pendek, which received RM217,254.92 for renovations, and Gua Musang Hospital, allocated RM199,000 for vital ultrasound equipment. Other projects include the installation of tube wells in Kampung Manok, Jeli, and the provision of cataract machines for Tanah Merah Hospital, totaling RM117,428 and RM92,228.50 respectively for these specific initiatives.

This increase of RM381,550.38 or 38.44 percent shows a very encouraging development in the performance of MAIK's cash waqf collection.

MAIK also reported a substantial increase in its cash waqf collections, rising by 38.44% to RM1.37 million in the first eight months of this year, compared to RM992,493.69 during the same period last year. This growth is attributed to enhanced administrative structures and more systematic waqf management. The council also acknowledged the Kelantan State Government's support in streamlining land waqf procedures through a one-stop center approach, aiming to further encourage community participation in waqf practices to bolster the socio-economic well-being of the region.

This proactive initiative is believed to be able to spur wider participation from the community in performing the waqf act, thereby contributing to efforts to strengthen the socio-economy of the ummah in the state of Kelantan.
