Kgatlana continued to pose a threat to Burkina Faso's defense, nearly doubling South Africa's lead in the 30th minute with a shot that went just over the crossbar. After halftime, Burkina Faso pressed for an equalizer, but South Africa's organized defense effectively limited their chances.

South Africa's victory saw them leapfrog Tanzania in the standings. Tanzania suffered a 2-1 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in the simultaneous Group B match. Côte d’Ivoire secured the top position in the group with goals from Nsira Ouedraogo and Ines Konan, while Tanzania managed a consolation goal deep into stoppage time via a penalty from Diana Msewa.
