Raducanu pulls out of US Open

Emma Raducanu will miss the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year, due to a stress fracture in her right leg. This withdrawal marks the latest in a series of injury woes that have plagued the 23-year-old's career and current season.

The fracture was sustained during the grass-court season, forcing Raducanu to withdraw from Wimbledon on the eve of the tournament. She was later seen in an orthopaedic boot, and videos posted on social media showed her continuing her recovery in St Moritz, fueling concerns about her fitness for the US Open.

According to PA reports, Raducanu made the decision to withdraw on the advice of her medical team. The US Open is scheduled to begin on August 30.

After a positive period last summer, which included winning her first matches at Flushing Meadows since her 2019 title win, the past 12 months have been frustrating for Raducanu due to persistent physical issues. A foot injury severely hampered her pre-season training, and she subsequently spent two and a half months off court dealing with a lingering post-viral illness after falling unwell in early February.
