Killings: IG deploys tactical teams to Plateau to restore peace

Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu, has deployed Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Dankombo Morris to Plateau State to address the recent deadly attack on Kawel community. The attack in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area, reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people. This deployment is part of immediate measures to assess the security situation and implement strategies to restore calm and prevent further violence.

The IGP also authorized the deployment of additional personnel and operational assets, including Police Mobile Force units and tactical teams. These reinforcements aim to strengthen the security presence in the affected communities. AIG Morris, accompanied by members of the Plateau State Police Command management team, visited Bokkos on Tuesday. During the visit, he held strategic engagements with local government officials, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders to coordinate the security response.

Following the unfortunate incident in Kawel Community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo F. Morris, to Plateau State for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and to put in place necessary measures aimed at restoring peace and preventing any further occurrence.

DSP Alabo Alfred, spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, confirmed the deployment and details of the visit. He stated that the AIG's mission is to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and implement necessary measures for peace restoration. During the meeting with AIG Morris, the Executive Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, welcomed the delegation. He commended the IGP's swift response and described the attack as a tragic, unprovoked act of criminality. The victims have reportedly already been buried.

Hon. Amalau appealed for the deployment of more security personnel to support existing efforts in protecting lives and property. Mrs. Hajara Yunana, President of Women in Politics Initiative, Plateau State Chapter, also expressed concern about the attack's impact on women and families. She commended the police response and urged for assurances of continued protection.
