Former professional baseball player Kim Byung-hyun has shared the reason behind his 16-year abstinence from alcohol: he quit drinking after getting married.

Appearing on the tvN entertainment program 'What Will You Leave Behind?', Kim, along with fellow former players Choo Shin-soo and Oh Seung-hwan, shared a meal with Park Se-ri and Lee Young-ja. During the gathering, the topic of drinking came up, with Oh Seung-hwan expressing his enjoyment of drinking in the evenings after retirement.

When asked by Lee Young-ja when he stopped drinking, Kim revealed it had been 16 years. He explained that he had only drunk briefly before quitting after his marriage. The revelation came after Park Se-ri remarked that Kim's reason for quitting drinking was the "number one" she had ever heard. Kim further elaborated that he met his wife by chance at a meal with acquaintances. He had been drinking "daytime alcohol" when he saw her and fell in love at first sight, deciding he wanted to marry her. He added that his wife also quit drinking after that experience.
