Kim Jin-wook shines as Lotte Giants aim for second-half surge

Lotte Giants starting pitcher Kim Jin-wook is enjoying his most successful season to date. After being a highly anticipated left-handed prospect since being drafted in 2021, Kim has finally realized his potential.

This season, he has started all 16 games he's pitched, accumulating 94⅔ innings with a 2.95 ERA and a 5-4 record. He has achieved nine quality starts, demonstrating consistent performance. His recent form has been particularly impressive, with a 2.28 ERA in four games last month and a 2.19 ERA in his two starts this month.

Recognizing his achievements, Kim was selected for the All-Star game for the first time in his professional career. "Individually, I'm satisfied with how the first half went," Kim said. "I've improved technically, but more importantly, I've gained confidence on the mound, which has led to good results."

Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung, known for his critical assessments, has openly praised Kim Jin-wook's transformation. "I think he's praising me because I'm playing well," Kim said with a smile. "The manager always gives me advice and tells me to pitch comfortably on the mound, which has helped me achieve good results in the first half."

With the All-Star break providing a respite, Kim is balancing rest and training for the second half. "Rest is important, but I'm consistently training to be ready for my next start," he stated. "I'm focusing on my first outing in the second half." The Lotte Giants finished the first half in 8th place, but Kim is determined to help the team climb the standings. "I will prepare better in the second half and focus on improving the team's ranking," he vowed.
