Kim Joo-hyung secures career-best 3rd place at U.S. Open

Kim Joo-hyung achieved his personal best result in a major championship, finishing third at the U.S. Open golf tournament held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. He concluded the final round with an even-par 70, bringing his total score to 1-under-par 279.

Wyndham Clark secured the victory with a final score of 4-under-par 276, holding off Sam Burns, who finished second at 3-under-par 277. While Clark had a significant lead heading into the final round, the competition proved to be more intense than anticipated. Kim Joo-hyung mounted a strong challenge, notably hitting his approach shot to within 1.8 meters on the final hole. However, his eagle putt narrowly missed, preventing him from tying for second place.

This strong showing at the U.S. Open is a significant turnaround for Kim, who had a less consistent season on the PGA Tour prior to this event, with only one top-10 finish in 14 tournaments. His third-place finish marks his first top-5 placement in an official PGA Tour event since his runner-up finish in a playoff against world number one Scottie Scheffler at the Travelers Championship in 2023.

Kim's previous best performance at the U.S. Open was a T8 finish in 2023. Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler, who was aiming for the career grand slam, finished tied for fourth place at even-par 280. Fellow South Korean Im Sung-jae finished tied for 43rd place after a difficult final round.
