King Charles expresses sorrow over Nepal disaster

King Charles of Great Britain stated that he and Queen Camilla are "heartbroken" by the destruction wrought by flash floods and landslides on the border of Nepal and Tibet.

The British government has offered Nepal 5 million pounds, approximately 820 million Icelandic króna, in emergency assistance. In a message posted on the royal family's social media, the King emphasized the "strong, deep, and personal ties" many in Britain have with the region.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also affirmed Britain's support for Nepal during this emergency, pledging the aid and the deployment of response teams. Among the 517 foreigners reported missing after the disaster are 33 British citizens. Britain shares historical and close ties with Nepal, notably through the long-standing Gurkha regiments, renowned for their fighting spirit, loyalty, and bravery.
