Kinmen fire bureau wins top honor after scoring outstanding in all eight assessment categories

Kinmen County Fire Bureau has received Taiwan’s highest fire-service evaluation honor after earning the top rating in all eight assessment categories. The bureau shared the “Outstanding Agency” award with Taiwan’s five special municipalities and Changhua County.

To qualify, agencies had to receive the highest rating in fire prevention, hazardous-material management, disaster rescue, fire investigation, use of civilian resources, emergency medical care, emergency command and training. They also needed an average score above 95.

Only seven agencies received the distinction. Besides New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung, the recipients were Changhua County and Kinmen County. Kinmen was the only outlying island to win the award.

The bureau said it maintains an internal evaluation system in which supervisors and staff review key tasks and assess performance. The process was followed by a second assessment and detailed review by the national fire agency.

Director Lyu Ying-hua attributed the result to stronger safety management, the introduction of safety officers and upgraded protective equipment at disaster scenes. The bureau also established a smart dispatch system to shorten response times, expanded drones for specialized rescues, introduced fire blankets designed for new-energy vehicles and continued promoting high-quality CPR and 12-lead electrocardiogram emergency networks. The stated goal is broader protection for Kinmen residents’ lives and property.
