Klaipėda police target negligent drivers, record 809 violations

Klaipėda police have intensified their efforts against negligent drivers, recording a total of 809 violations in a single week. The enforcement campaign focused on various infractions, including driving under the influence of alcohol, operating vehicles without a license, and other traffic offenses.

During the period of July 15 to July 19, multiple drivers were apprehended for driving while intoxicated. In Palanga, a BMW driver born in 1987 was stopped with a blood alcohol content of 1.62 promille. On July 17, another BMW driver, born in 1981, was found to be driving with 0.42 promille and lacked a valid license. Later that day, a Toyota Prius driver was recorded at 0.50 promille, and on July 18, a Skoda driver had a blood alcohol level of 0.54 promille.

Further incidents included a BMW driver born in 2001 stopped with 1.49 promille on July 19. On the Klaipėda–Liepoja highway, several drivers were caught: a Ford Galaxy driver (born 1968) with 0.89 promille, a Mitsubishi Eclipse driver (born 1976) with 0.50 promille, and a Mercedes Benz driver (born 1978) with 0.82 promille. Even a cyclist, born in 1971, was found to be riding with a blood alcohol level of 2.07 promille.

Beyond drunk driving, the police addressed 11 drivers operating without licenses. Additionally, 29 drivers were caught using mobile phones illegally, and 54 drivers and two passengers failed to wear seatbelts, including six unbuckled children. Two drivers were cited for aggressive driving, and two for illegal overtaking. Enforcement also targeted users of electric micro-mobility devices, with 83 individuals caught riding without helmets. Speeding violations were also significant, with 550 cases recorded by mobile speed cameras and another 40 by other means.
